K What do I know? I already knew that there were different parts of the brain, that did different things to your body. | W What do I want to know? I want to know the functions that the brain does to your body, and how it communicates with you. | H How do I find out? I can find out by going on the internet and use the C.R.A.A.P test to find reliable sources that relate to my questions. |
L What have I learned? I have learned that the main parts of the brain are the Frontal lobes, Parietal lobes, Occipital lobes and Temporal lobes. I also learned about all the other parts of the brain and how each specific part of our brain makes our body work. | A What action will I take? I will take action by creating a visual presentation on poster board. On the poster board it will explain what all of the parts of the brain do to the human body, and also some fun facts about the brain. | Q What new questions do I have? A few new questions that I have are: 1. When did scientists start to research on the brain. 2. How does the brain send messages within our body, and we don't feel it. |
My reflection
What I learned during this Genius Hour was that the brain sends and receives messages to and from all over the human body. These messages travel on neurons. Neurons travel on neuron highways with speeds up to speeds of 200 MPH! That is really fast. I also learned all of the names of the parts of the brain and how they affect the human body. It was fascinating to learn that the smallest part of your brain is the size of a pea!
Something that didn't go very well for me was that I felt like I rushed myself a little bit. In the beginning I basically took information off of websites and tried to make it my own, but that didn't go very well. I realized that I actually had to sit back and study the information I was researching, and learn about it before I could put it into my own words more easily. I also realized that there were some websites that were better then others and had information that was easier for me to understand. I found it a lot easier to get and learn the information I needed when I chose to use websites that were more tailored to kids. Sometimes I also don't realize when I am making careless mistakes, and I learned that if I just give myself more time I would make less mistakes. This is a big area of growth for me, because I don't always pay attention when I am rushing.
The next time I do Genius Hour, if I were to ever expand on this question or go deeper, I think that I would research on how dreams are created. This excites me because I have always wanted to know the theory behind dreams. What makes us dream about specific or random things?
